The Minimalist Game/Day 1

We have Hilarious convos in our marriage, pretty much every day.

One of them goes something like this:

"Hi, my name is Layne, and I'm a minimalist."

"Uh, no you're not."

"Yes, I AM!"

"I love you. Have you seen how many books you own? You're definitely not a minimalist."

"Well, I hate extraneous stuff. And I love my books. I think I'm a minimalist."

"Okay, I'm going to go watch The Office now."

...........

I do hate stuff!

I do love minimalism!

My mom even bought me the book Essentialism as my Christmas gift, which goes so far in proving how much I hate excess Stuff.

In truth, I suppose we're all about to see just how much.

Our friend Tamarah popped over one day last week and informed us that she's going to play the Minimalist Game and asked if we wanted to join her.

Uh, YES. Yes, I do. From the self-proclaimed Queenie of Minimalism, count me in.

So here's the deal:

We get rid of one item today, two items tomorrow, three items on the third (and so forth) until the end of the month. The person who can keep going the longest, wins. Want to play with me?

My mom, sister and I are all fairly intelligent people but we sat around for ten minutes straight one afternoon attempting to add up how many items total this would equal and kept getting different numbers.

That aside, we finally decreed it was somewhere around the 465 mark. This does feel a bit overwhelming considering we moved from our 1-bedroom apartment back in July and got rid of a TON of stuff back then. But I'm optimistic- I'm a minimalist, remember.

Here is our day #1.

When we went to put up our tree this year, we realized this was far too small for even the small tree we'd cut down. There's no need to keep it for the next 15 years, hoping it will work on one tree, one day. So out the door you go, useless tree sta…

Happy sorting, discarding and so forth.

Please do keep me posted; you can leave your comments in the comment section. Can't wait to hear.

And from the original creators:

"Win or lose, we’d love to hear about your game on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram: #MinsGame.

Ready? Go!"

xo.
